Breaking Bad: One Big Final Season or Two Small Ones?

Posted by bryansarnold Comments (0)

When it was announced that Breaking Bad was ending after 16 final episodes, it was unclear if all of them would air in one jumbo season or not. The first season of AMC’s Breaking Bad had seven episodes while the last three have been made up of 13 installments each.

At last night’s Screen Actors Guild Awards, co-star Anna Gunn told the LA Times that there will actually be two mini-seasons of eight installments each. Gunn noted that season five will begin shooting soon and the last batch of episodes will likely be filmed in Winter 2013. There’s no word yet on when either will air.

Of her time on Breaking Bad, Gunn said, “It’s been an incredible ride” and she noted how unusual the show’s storyline has been.

What do you think? Would you like all of the final Breaking Bad episodes together or in two mini-seasons?

Arrested Development: Season Four Update

Posted by bryansarnold Comments (0)

There’s still more than a year to go before the Bluth family returns for more Arrested Development, but co-executive producer Dean Lorey assures us that progress is being made.

On his blog, under the heading “ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT new season,” he wrote:

We’re really doing this thing. Mitch Hurwitz, Jim Vallely and I are off writing the new season of ARRESTED to premiere on Netflix in 2013. The original cast is back. There are offices and parking spaces. We’re shooting this year. I wish I could give more specifics but, for the moment, even the schedule is being kept under wraps. But it’s happening and it’s great to be back with my pals from the show. More later as it becomes okay to release further details…

The fourth season of Arrested Development was announced last October by series creator Hurwitz at the New Yorker Festival. The show originally aired for three low-rated seasons on FOX, from 2003-2006.

Series star Bateman confirmed the news shortly after it was announced, writing, “It’s true. We will do 10 episodes and the movie. Probably shoot them all together next summer for a release in early ’13. VERY excited!”

Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer, later said, “Arrested Development is one of the finest American comedies in TV history and its return through Netflix is a perfect example of how we are working closely with studios and networks to provide consumers with entertainment they love.”

What do you think? Are you excited for the new episodes? Do you think there will be more than 10 episodes? Do you think the movie will still happen?

‘Pretty Little Liars’: ‘Lolita,’ Vivian Darkbloom

sasha-pieterse-getty.jpgOn the latest “Pretty Little Liars,” A sets his or her sights on Hanna, in a big way. And “Lolita” may give us another piece of the Alison puzzle.

First off, A warns Hanna to make Caleb stop working on the cell phone files or Hanna’s mother will be exposed for her thievery at the bank. Then A sends an email to Hanna’s whole address book from her phone that shows her new nemesis Kate topless in the locker room. And it’s a shame, because Spencer had blackmailed Kate into being nice to Hanna based on some old embarrassing picture from camp. But we have a feeling Kate won’t care so much about that anymore.

In Ezria Land, Byron recommends Ezra for a position as an Associate Dean. At Hollis’ satellite campus in New Orleans. Yikes. And Aria has an actual friend date with Holden, when she spies a very suspicious bruise on his side. Hmm.

Speaking of dates, Emily takes Maya out with her mom while she’s in town and Maya is a total pill. She’s not over Emily’s mom getting her shipped off to sober camp, so she thinks the best solution is to act ridiculous.

And in Alison news, it turns out Ali had a fake ID identifying her as Vivian Darkbloom, which was a pseudonym of Vladimir Nabokov (it’s an anagram). He wrote “Lolita,” the tale of a young girl whose stepfather is obsessed with her and with whom she becomes sexually involved. That’s … interesting.

Thoughts Tidbits

  • We think Alison’s involvement with Ian definitely qualifies her as a Lolita, but is there someone else? Some other older man?
  • If you’re looking for an actual Lolita story that’s sweet and lovely and not gross or inappropriate, you should check out “Beautiful Girls.” Timothy Hutton and Natalie Portman will kill you dead.
  • There were more than a few laugh-out-loud moments in this one (and not in a good way). Caleb’s techno-fu with the videotape? Zooming in on the license and sharpening the image? Um, no. And Ezra saying that glaciers don’t melt very fast, “that’s why they call it the Ice Age.” Um, what does that even mean? I’m not sure he’s qualified to teach first grade with that nonsense.
  • What do you suppose JL is? A pawn shop?
  • The tease at the end with Peter Hastings’ gun was great.
  • Oh, and we are totally coveting a Rosewood High gym uniform.

What did you think, PLL fans?

‘X Factor’: Paula Abdul out as well?

paula-abdul-x-factor-fox.jpgAnd the hits just keep on coming. It has already been revealed Monday (Jan. 30) that host Steve Jones and judge Nicole Scherzinger are exiting “X Factor,” but now it looks as though Paula Abdul is gone too, according to Deadline.

A source close to Simon Cowell tells the site that it was cleaning day over at “X Factor” and that none of the three chose to leave. We wonder who Cowell plans on bringing in to liven the place up. “X Factor” never could quite live up to “Idol”-esque ratings.

Meanwhile, two separate sources tell E! that Abdul got the bad news Monday.

“Simon wants to take the show in a different direction,” one of the sources says. No kidding.

“X Factor” averaged right around 12.5 million viewers per episode, while “Idol” in Season 11 is so far averaging 19.3 million per episode. Not the ratings “Idol” once got, but still pretty big.
