The Bachelorette: Summer 2012 Ratings

Here are the latest ratings for The Bachelorette TV series. Emily Maynard won Brad Womack’s hand on The Bachelor but that relationship later ended. She returns to the mansion to try to find a mate out of 25 handsome gentlemen. The eighth season of The Bachelorette typically airs Monday nights on the ABC network.

These are the TV show’s ratings for the 2011-12 season, the best way to tell if The Bachelorette is going to be cancelled or renewed for season nine. Check out our ABC ratings report card to see how this show’s numbers compare with the others on the network.

These figures will be updated as the weeks progress so be sure to bookmark and return to this page:

Episode 08-01: Monday, 05/14/12
2.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.5 million total viewers. (These are fast affiliate numbers and will be updated to reflect the national ratings when they are available.)

Not an impressive start for the new season but not a terrible one either. Year-to-year, ABC was down by 7% in the demo (vs a 2.8 rating) and down by 6% in total viewers (vs 9.02 million).

Reference point: The Summer 2011 season averaged a 2.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 8.33 million viewers.

Note: These ratings are collected by the Nielsen company and are the final national numbers. These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.

Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition: Third Season Ordered

ABC has done it again. They’ve renewed Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition for a third season — before the next season has even begun airing.

A reality show, Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition documents makeovers of very overweight people. Trainer Chris Powell moves into their homes to help them change their attitude, nutrition, and exercise routine. When Powell leaves, he’s set them on the right course and keeps watching their progress via video chat updates. At the end of one year, the transformation is unveiled at a party attended by the person’s friends and family.

The series debuted last May to a 2.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.11 million total viewers. Over the course of the season, the ratings declined and the eight episodes ended up averaging a 2.1 in the demo with 6.02 million.

Some were concerned that the declining numbers would cause the show to be cancelled. However, because of the extended lead time needed to produce new episodes, ABC had already ordered a group of additional episodes in September 2010. Those eight installments will start airing as season two on Sunday, June 3rd.

Walmart has come on as a sponsor and this time around, the season two episodes with be 120 minutes each. JD Roth, the show’s executive producer, noted, “We can let the story breathe. There’s much more storytelling now.” Roth also said, “In my mind, this is a huge franchise that has been on the air for a while, but in reality, only eight episodes have aired so far.”

According to TV Guide, the network has now ordered a third season of 15 episodes — the show’s biggest season order yet.

In addition to Powell, some of the second season participants have signed on to be weight-loss “ambassadors” that will help new people reach their goals. One includes “Tony,” a man who’d grown to 400 pounds while working in a fast-food restaurant. He disappeared for a time during taping because he became homeless. Roth said, “He was worried that we’d kick him off the show if we knew.”

The 15 episodes of season three will begin airing in Summer 2013.

A Gifted Man: Patrick Wilson Comments on Cancellation

As expected A Gifted Man was cancelled by CBS over the weekend. It was no surprise to the show’s star, Patrick Wilson. Via Twitter, he noted that he’d been expecting the cancellation for about two months.

Wilson wasn’t crazy however about the way that he was informed about the show being cancelled. Wilson noted, “So…shocking to no one: #agiftedman is done.Found out via email…and not from the network.Stay classy.Thanks to AGM fans! Great cast/crew!” (He later acknowledged that the “Stay classy” part was indeed a nod to Anchorman.)

A very busy and versatile performer, it doesn’t sound like Wilson is as upset about the cancellation as some of the show’s fans.

He followed up with, “Thanks for the AGM love…but now that it’s “official,”I couldn’t be happier. As good as it was(sometimes) it was not what I signed on for.”

Wilson tweeted on Sunday, “At St. Patrick’s cathedral…. Breathtaking…. Puts a lot in perspective. Go dag. ”

Harry’s Law: Stars and NBC Chair on Cancellation

Though Harry’s Law was the most-watched scripted TV show on NBC this season, the network cancelled it. As I’ve suggested in the past, advertisers favor shows that attract those in the 18-49 demographic. Though Harry’s Law had a lot of viewers, the legal series had some of the lowest demographic numbers on the network.

When asked why Kathy Bates and company had been let go, NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt said, “It was a difficult decision. Everyone here respects Harry’s Law a lot but we were finding it hard to grow the audience for it. Its audience skewed very old. It’s hard to monetize that.”

Bates broke the news of the show’s cancellation over the weekend. She wrote to fans, “Sad news today. Harry’s Law will not be renewed for a 3rd season. We are all terribly sad. Many thanks for all your support.”

The actress later noted, “Waiting for this verdict was tough. We wrapped a month ago so it was a very long wait!”

Bates reconciled, “Tough day getting used to the idea of no more Harry. Think I’ll keep her with me 4ever.”

When asked if there was a possibility that Harry’s Law might move to cable, Bates responded, “No hope.” But, responding to an inquiry last night on the subject, Bates wrote, “Not sure, but don’t think so.”

Justine Lupe, who played Phoebe Blake, wrote, “Sad day. Little bit of heartbreak. What a gift to had had this time.”

Actress Karen Olivo, who joined the cast in season two as Cassie Reynolds, responded with a message to her castmates, “It was an honor, my friends!”

Nathan Corddry, who’d been playing Adam Branch since the show began, noted, “I’d thank everyone individually, but the list is too long.Never was happier professionally. Thank you for a wondrful 2 years. #tough2swallow”

“With first-year culture-driving hits like NEW GIRL and THE X FACTOR and strong returning tentpoles like AMERICAN IDOL and GLEE, we were laser focused on our development and it has really paid off,” said Reilly. “I have no doubt that our two genre-defying new dramas, our new FOX Sports Saturdays, and our three new distinctive, sharp and upscale comedies – all fronted by incredible talent – can propel FOX to even greater success.”

This fall, two new half-hour comedies – THE MINDY PROJECT and BEN AND KATE – will join RAISING HOPE and NEW GIRL on an all-new Tuesday night comedy block. Created by Emmy-nominated writer/producer and New York Times best-selling author Mindy Kaling (“The Office”) and starring Kaling, Chris Messina (“Damages”), Anna Camp (“The Good Wife”) and newcomer Ed Weeks, THE MINDY PROJECT features Kaling as a skilled OB/GYN navigating the tricky waters of both her personal and professional life, as she pursues her dreams of becoming the perfect woman, finding the perfect man and getting her perfect romantic comedy ending.

BEN AND KATE, the heartwarming new sibling comedy created by Dana Fox (“What Happens In Vegas”) and directed by Jake Kasdan (“Bad Teacher”), also debuts Tuesdays this fall. Edge-of-your-seat thriller THE FOLLOWING, created by Kevin Williamson (“Dawson’s Creek,” “Scream” franchise) and starring Golden Globe Award-winning Kevin Bacon (“X-Men,” “Frost/Nixon”) and James Purefoy (“Rome”), premieres in midseason. The spellbinding and intense drama follows an ex-FBI agent (Bacon) called out of retirement to track down a devious and diabolical serial killer (Purefoy), the mastermind behind a nationwide string of murders.

THE GOODWIN GAMES, the inventive new comedy from the executive producers of “How I Met Your Mother,” Carter Bays, Craig Thomas and Chris Harris, is slated for midseason. Starring Scott Foley (“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Felicity”), Becki Newton (“Ugly Betty”) and Jake Lacy (“Better With You”), the family comedy tells the story of three estranged siblings who return home after the loss of their beloved father (guest star Beau Bridges, “The Descendants”), and unexpectedly find themselves poised to inherit more than $20 million – if, and only if, they can adhere to their late father’s trivial wishes.

It was also announced that GLEE, the award-winning cultural phenomenon, will move this fall to Thursdays (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), following all-new installments of Simon Cowell’s THE X FACTOR (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). THE X FACTOR returns for Season Two with two new judges, who will join Cowell and L.A. Reid on the world’s largest search to award one global superstar or music group a $5 million record contract.

THE MINDY PROJECT
THE MINDY PROJECT is a new single-camera comedy from Emmy Award-nominated writer/producer and New York Times best-selling author Mindy Kaling (“The Office”) that follows a woman who, despite having a successful career, desperately needs to break bad habits in her personal life. After all, how many doctors make inappropriate toasts at their ex-boyfriend’s wedding, nearly drown at the bottom of a stranger’s pool and get arrested for disorderly conduct just moments before having to deliver a baby? Funny, impatient and politically incorrect, MINDY LAHIRI (Kaling) can quote every romantic comedy starring Meg Ryan that exists. She loves the good ones and the bad ones, because the girl always gets the guy. Mindy is determined to be more punctual, spend less money, lose weight and read more books – all in pursuit of becoming a well-rounded perfect woman…who can meet and date the perfect guy. Mindy is a skilled OB/GYN and shares a practice with a few other doctors, none of whom make life any easier for her. JEREMY REED (British writer/comedian Ed Weeks) is the walking definition of total bad news. He not only shares a practice with Mindy, but sometimes her bed as well – despite her best efforts to resist. He is funny, self-absorbed and super sexy. In contrast, DANNY CASTELLANO (Chris Messina, “Damages”) is a hothead and guys’ guy who has a habit of stealing Mindy’s patients. Danny criticizes her for everything, including her struggling love life and her lack of professionalism – even though it’s obvious to everyone except Mindy that he secretly admires her work. His blue-collar childhood gives him a big chip on his shoulder, but he is a dedicated physician, which Mindy can’t stand to admit because he’s always getting on her case. Rounding out the office staff are the receptionists – BETSY PUTCH (Zoe Jarman, “Huge”), young, earnest and easily excitable, who thinks the world of Mindy and is always trying to impress her; and SHAUNA DICANIO (newcomer Dana DeLorenzo), a self-assured Jersey Girl who is indifferent to Mindy, always knows where the cool party is and carries a poorly concealed torch for Danny. Mindy is in constant communication with her beloved best friend from college, GWEN GRANDY (Anna Camp, “The Good Wife”), who also happens to be the governor’s daughter. Gwen is a hilarious, sometimes too-blunt friend, and secretly a former carefree party girl (which only Mindy seems to remember). Although Gwen is now happily married to a financial analyst, with a six-year-old daughter, this lawyer-turned-Pilates mom remains squarely in Mindy’s corner. As Mindy attempts to get her career off the ground and meet a guy who passes her red flag test (no drug habits, no skinny jeans and no secret families, among others), only time will tell if she gets her romantic comedy ending.

Welcome to THE FOLLOWING, the terrifying new thriller from creator/executive producer Kevin Williamson (“The Vampire Diaries,” “Dawson’s Creek,” the “Scream” franchise). When notorious serial killer JOE CARROLL (James Purefoy, “Rome”) escapes from death row and embarks on a new killing spree, the FBI calls former agent RYAN HARDY (Emmy-nominated actor Kevin Bacon, “X-Men: First Class”) to consult on the case. Having since withdrawn from the public eye, Hardy was responsible for Carroll’s capture nine years ago, after Carroll murdered 14 female students on the Virginia college campus where he taught literature. Hardy is a walking textbook of all-things Carroll. He knows him better than anyone; he is perhaps Carroll’s only psychological and intellectual match. But the Ryan Hardy who broke the Carroll case years ago isn’t the same man today. Wounded both physically and mentally by his previous pursuit of this serial killer, it’s been a long time since Hardy has been in the field. This investigation is his redemption, his call to action. In contrast to nine years ago, Hardy isn’t calling the shots on this case. He works closely with an FBI team, which includes all-business and tough-as-nails JENNIFER MASON (Jeananne Goossen, “The Vow,” ALCATRAZ) and young, razor-sharp MIKE WESTON (Shawn Ashmore, “X-Men”). The team considers Hardy to be more of a liability than an asset. But Hardy proves his worth when he uncovers that Carroll was covertly communicating with a network of killers in the outside world. It quickly becomes obvious that he has more planned than just a prison escape, and there’s no telling how many additional killers are out there. The FBI’s investigation leads Hardy to CLAIRE MATTHEWS (Natalie Zea, “Justified”), Carroll’s ex-wife and mother of the criminal’s 10-year-old son, JOEY (newcomer Kyle Catlett). Close during Hardy’s initial investigation, Hardy turns to Claire for insight into Carroll’s next move. The tension rises when Carroll’s accomplices kidnap his intended last victim from nine years ago. Hardy becomes ever more determined to end Carroll’s game when he realizes that this psychopath intends to finish what he started. The thriller will follow Hardy and the FBI as they are challenged with the ever-growing web of murder around them, masterminded by the devious Carroll, who dreams of writing a novel with Hardy as his protagonist. The reinvigorated Hardy will get a second chance to capture Carroll, as he’s faced with not one but a cult of serial killers.

Bent: NBC Sitcom Cancelled; No Season Two

NBC’s new sitcom Bent came and went very quickly. We now know that it’s been cancelled so it certainly won’t be back.

A romantic comedy, Bent revolves around the relationship of a divorced no-nonsense lawyer (Amanda Peet) and the irresponsible womanizing contractor (David Walton) that she reluctantly hires to renovate her kitchen. Others in the cast include Joey King, Margo Harshman, Jeffrey Tambor, J.B. Smoove, Jesse Plemons, and Pasha D. Lychnikoff.

NBC held Bent until late in the season (never a good sign) and ran the six episodes in hour blocks over the course of three weeks.

The belief was that, by airing two episodes together, they would have a better chance of hooking an audience.

It’s hard to know if that strategy worked to any degree but the ratings were terrible. The show aired opposite other popular shows on Wednesday nights and debuted to a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 2.75 million total viewers. It was fourth place in its timeslot. The second installment dropped 20% to a 0.8 rating with 2.38 million.

The next two weeks saw a low of 0.7 in the demo with 1.93 million. With those numbers, there was just no way that NBC was going to bring it back for a second season.

On our NBC Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demo performance of TV shows on the network, Bent has an “D-” grade. It’s the lowest-rated sitcom that the NBC aired this season.

Desperate Housewives: Your Last Episode Thoughts?

Tonight, ABC aired the two-hour series finale of Desperate Housewives; actually a pair of episodes, titled “Give Me the Blame” “Finishing the Hat.” After eight seasons and 180 episodes, I believe Desperate Housewives is the longest-running primetime series with all female leads. It beat Charmed by two episodes. Quite an accomplishment.

ABC has reason to be very thankful to this TV series. When Desperate Housewives and Lost came on the scene in 2004, they were fresh and buzz-worthy shows that really gave the network a boost.

In tonight’s episodes, there was, as you might expect, lots of closure.

After fighting cancer, Mrs. McCluskey (Kathryn Joosten) was in her final days, decided to take the rap for Alejandro’s murder, and succeeded in ending Bree’s trial. She dies as Julie’s baby is being born and has Roy (Orson Bean) at her side.

Ben (Charles Mesure) refused to rat on Bree during the trial, spends some time in jail for contempt but is eventually freed. On the way to her wedding, Renee’s (Vanessa Williams) wedding dress is ruined when Julie’s water breaks in the limo. Thanks to Gaby (Eva Longoria), she gets a new one, arrives late to her wedding but still walks down the aisle.

Bree (Marcia Cross) is initially angry with Trip (Scott Bakula) for some of his actions during the trial but eventually relents and lets him back into her life. In a flashforward, we learn that Bree moved away from Wisteria Lane with Trip and went into politics in the South.

Gaby and Carlos (Ricardo Antonio Chavira) both nearly confessed to Alejandro’s murder, each proving how much they care for one another. Gaby is given a promotion at work and we find out, during the flashforward, that Carlos helped her start her own successful personal shopper website. That led to a successful shopping TV show and the two move to California where they live in a big house and happily continue arguing with each other.

Lynette (Felicity Huffman) and Tom (Doug Savant) finally get back together. Katherine Mayfair (Body of Proof’s Dana Delany) returns to Wisteria Lane and offers Lynette an intriguing job — working for her successful frozen food company in New York. In a flashforward, we learn that she took the job and the two (presumably with their kids) live in a penthouse overlooking Central Park. As a grandmother, Lynette eventually plays with her six red-headed grandchildren there.

Susan (Teri Hatcher) tells her friends of her plans to sell her house and to move away so that she can be close to Julie (Andrea Bowen) as she raises her daughter. Julie goes into labor and has her baby with Porter (Charlie Carver), Tom, Lynette, and Susan in attendance. Susan shares one last poker game with the ladies before she moves out. They promise that they’ll get together to play poker again someday but we’re told they never do.

As Susan leaves the house, she meets and welcomes the new owner — a young wife who looks a lot like her.

In her car, Susan asks MJ (Mason Vale Cotton) and Julie if they’d mind if she took one more drive around the neighborhood. As they do, we see the ghosts of more than 20 residents from years past look on as she drives by. The last is Mary Alice (Brenda Strong), the neighbor whose suicide began the series.

In the last scene we see the new owner of Susan’s house quickly go into her new home, take a wooden chest out of the box she was carrying, and lock it in a cabinet. Apparently some things never change. There will always be lots of secrets on Wisteria Lane.

99 Ending or Cancelled TV Shows for the 2011-12 TV Season

Has your favorite TV show been cancelled? Will it be back for the 2012–2013 TV season? If your favorite is on the list below, you have our condolences.

This list encompasses shows that have been cancelled so far, covering those that have gotten the ax (or walking papers) between June 1, 2011 and May 31, 2012. In some cases, the last episodes of some shows aired months earlier but the network didn’t get around to canceling the series until later. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, try the 2010–2011 listings, the 2009–2010 listings, or maybe you’ve gotten lucky!

Now, let’s take a moment to bow our heads and remember these fallen TV series…

101 Ways to Leave a Game Show (ABC)
We’ll never find out what the rest of the “ways” were. The last episode of the competition series aired on July 26, 2011.

Against the Wall (Lifetime)
This family cop drama didn’t catch on with a large enough audience so it was canned after one season on the air. The last episode aired in September.

Alcatraz (FOX)
The ratings started off strong but faded over the course of the season. It’s been cancelled and all 13 episodes have aired.

All-American Muslim (TLC)
This docu-series follows the lives of five Lebanese American Muslim families who live in Dearborn, Michigan. The show started off with decent ratings and positive reviews. Viewership had declined significantly by the end of the eight episodes so it wasn’t renewed.

Allen Gregory (FOX)
Co-created by and starring Jonah Hill, this animated series aggravated lots of people but didn’t keep enough of them coming back week after week. FOX aired all seven episodes and there won’t be any more.

Are You There Chelsea? (NBC)
This sitcom started out okay but quickly lost steam over the course of 12 episodes.

Awake (NBC)
It started out strong and had good reviews but viewers tuned out over time. It won’t be back.

Bent (NBC)
Execs contended that they weren’t burning through the six episodes when they aired them in three weeks. Regardless, the sitcom won’t be back for a second season.

Best Friends Forever (NBC)
The peacock network pulled the plug on future airings of this sitcom due to low ratings.

Bored to Death (HBO)
Starring Jason Schwartzman, Zach Galifianakis and Ted Danson, this show revolves around a man with writers block. The ratings dropped a lot in season three so HBO opted not to give it a fourth season.

Blue Mountain State (Spike TV)
There won’t be a fourth season of the football comedy as the cable channel has decided to focus on reality programming.

Breaking Bad (AMC)
Walter and Jesse have been given their walking papers. The final 16 episodes will be broken up between 2012 and 2013.

Breaking In (FOX)
The sitcom was saved once from cancellation but won’t be rescued again.

Buried Treasure (FOX)
Leigh and Leslie Kelso may continue travelling the country in search of rare antiques but they won’t be seen on FOX.

Camelot (Starz)
The ratings weren’t great and there would have been production challenges in making a second season so the cable channel pulled the plug. The drama lasted 10 episodes.

Cash Cab (Discovery)
The game show that gave taxi passengers a chance to win cash prizes has ended after seven years on the air.

CHAOS (CBS)
A comedic action series, this show was delayed until late in the season. When it finally debuted, few noticed. CBS burned off most of the episodes on Saturday nights.

Charlie’s Angels (ABC)
The original series was a big success for ABC but this one flopped. Production was shut down after eight episodes and the show was cancelled.

Chuck (NBC)
Has there ever been a time when this TV show wasn’t in danger of being cancelled? NBC decided to renew it for a fifth and final season of 13 episodes, giving the cast and crew ample time to craft a series finale.

The Closer (TNT)
Kyra Sedgwick supposedly made the decision to end this top-rated series after seven seasons on the air. Though Brenda Leigh Johnson will depart, some of the characters will continue in a spin-off called Major Crimes.

Combat Hospital (ABC)
This series was a disappointment for the network and they only aired 12 of the 13 episodes. They cancelled the show and Shaw Media, who produces the show, couldn’t find another American outlet to help pay for a second season.

Countdown with Keith Olbermann (Current TV)
Using the same name from his long-running MSNBC show, Olbermann lasted less than a year before parting ways with Current TV.

CSI: Miami (CBS)
After 10 seasons, David Caruso can give back the sunglasses. The show ended with 232 episodes total.

Damages (DirecTV)
The show was picked up for two seasons when FX dropped it. It turns out that season five will be the show’s last. The final 10 episodes will air during the summer of 2012.

Desperate Housewives (ABC)
Rather than wait until the ratings dropped any further, the network has agreed to close down Wisteria Lane after eight seasons on the air.

Dragon Ball Z Kai (Nick)
This animated series ended after one season and 97 episodes. It’s being replaced Dragon Ball GT.

Ebert Presents: At the Movies (PBS)
Continuing the format of film criticism that was made popular by Ebert and Gene Siskel, this weekly program reviews a number of new and classic films. It didn’t find enough financial support and ended up being put on hiatus.

Escape Routes (NBC)
Sponsored by Ford, this competition series didn’t garner much interest on Saturday nights.

Eureka (Syfy)
Based on the ratings, this show was apparently too expensive to continue producing. The fifth and final season will air in mid-2012. After the cancellation announcement came down, the cable channel ordered an additional episode to allow Eureka some sort of proper finale.

Expedition Impossible (ABC)
This summer reality competition lasted 10 episodes and one season but the network apparently felt that a second season was, well, impossible.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (ABC)
Ty Pennington and his crew are getting a little rest. The network has cancelled the reality show but will still air it as occasional specials.

Fear Factor (NBC)
Joe Rogan won’t have to witness any more disgusting stunts. NBC has dropped it again.

The Finder (FOX)
This Bones spin-off stumbled out of the gate and just never caught on. It’s been cancelled after 13 episodes.

The Firm (NBC)
This highly-promoted legal series was a ratings disappointment.

Free Agents (NBC)
The second NBC series of the new fall season to be pulled, this Hank Azaria sitcom fell to a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic, despite much stronger lead-ins. For whatever reason, audiences just rejected this one.

Friends with Benefits (NBC)
The peacock network delayed this sitcom until the middle of the summer, an indication that they had no faith in it. The ratings were indeed terrible and they only aired 12 of the 13 episodes.

GCB (ABC)
Not enough viewers were interested in watching this dramedy about a former mean girl who returns home to Texas.

A Gifted Man (CBS)
Starring Patrick Wilson, this show had a lot of viewers but not enough young ones for CBS.

Good Vibes (MTV)
The animated series had a bumpy ride to the small screen, having started as a pilot of FOX. Unfortunately, the ratings weren’t high enough to warrant a second season.

H8R (The CW)
Hosted by Mario Lopez, this reality series matched celebrities with regular people who dislike them in the hopes of changing their perception. Few were interested.

The Hard Times of RJ Berger (MTV)
This high school series was barely renewed for a second season and the ratings only got worse in year two. Despite leaving some shocking and unresolved storylines without a conclusion, RJ and his pals won’t be back.

Harry’s Law (NBC)
Kathy Bates and company won’t be back for new cases next year.

HawthoRNe (TNT)
Starring Jada Pinkett Smith, this medical drama lasted three seasons and ended on a major cliffhanger. Sadly it’s been cancelled and won’t be back.

House (FOX)
After eight seasons, the decision has been made to end the venerable medical series.

How to Be a Gentleman (CBS)
The sitcom did decently by most standards but CBS has big hit comedies and new ones have to meet a high standard. CBS cut the season order to nine episodes, shut down production, and shipped the show to the Saturday night graveyard.

How to Make It in America (HBO)
Ben and Cam try to make it in the fashion industry but their show didn’t make it past season two.

Hung (HBO)
Ray Drecker (Thomas Jane) may be popular with the ladies but the cable channel tiered of his company. They’ve cancelled the show after three seasons and 30 episodes.

I Hate My Teenage Daughter (FOX)
Not many people watched this sitcom and the network pulled it prematurely.

The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret (IFC)
A comedy about a worker who bluffs his way into a senior sales position lasted for two seasons and just 12 installments.

I’m in the Band (Disney XD)
The comedy about a 15-year-old who joins his favorite adult band ended after two seasons and 41 episodes. The last one aired on December 9, 2011.

In Plain Sight (USA)
The cable channel has announced that season five will the last for Mary McCormack and company.

In the Flow with Affion Crockett (FOX)
The comedy sketch show ran during the summer months and didn’t generate much interest. It’s been canned and all six episodes have aired.

It’s Worth What? (NBC)
Hosted by Cedric the Entertainer, this game show ran for one season and nine episodes.

The Joy Behar Show (CNN)
Her cable show has come to an end but you can still see outspoken Behar weekday mornings on The View.

Karaoke Battle USA (ABC)
The winner of season one will be the only winner that this series ever has. The sixth and final episode aired on September 16, 2011.

The Life Times of Tim (HBO)
The cable channel cancelled the animated show after two seasons but then resurrected it for a third round of 10 episodes. They’ve now dumped it again.

Lopez Tonight (TBS)
George Lopez’s sitcom ran for six seasons but his late-night talk show barely lasted two before being cancelled.

Love Bites (NBC)
This anthology series about amour was conceived to revolve around two women in search of love. Off-camera problems created delays, what aired was very different, and most people ignored it.

Luck (HBO)
The drama boasted lots of talented actors but not many viewers cared enough to watch. After three horses died during the production of season two, the cable channel shut down the series.

Make It or Break It (ABC Family)
The cable channel gave the TV series just eight episodes for season three. It turns out that those will be the end.

Mama’s Boys From the Bronx (TLC)
The reality show was pulled from the schedule after just two weeks. It’s been cancelled, according to one of the show’s stars.

Man Up! (ABC)
This series was a ratings disappointment and dropped nearly every week it was on the air. ABC pulled it after eight episodes had aired and released the remaining five online.

Man, Woman, Wild (Discovery)
Special Forces survival expert Mykel Hawke and his savvy journalist wife Ruth England took on many challenges but didn’t make it to season three. The last episode aired on January 19th.

The Marriage Ref (NBC)
Hosted by Tom Papa, this non-scripted show last two seasons and 20 episodes.

The Martha Stewart Show (Hallmark)
The daytime show started as a syndicated series and was nearly cancelled but was picked up by Hallmark as part of a bigger deal. It wasn’t a success for Hallmark so they’ve canned it.

Memphis Beat (TNT)
Jason Lee and company won’t be back for a third round of episodes. The show was cancelled after two seasons on the air.

Men of a Certain Age (TNT)
Though beloved by some critics and viewers, this drama never caught on with a big audience and lasted just two seasons.

Minute to Win It (NBC)
The game show won’t be back for another round. It lasted two seasons and 66 episodes.

Mistresses (BBC America)
A show about a group of female friends, this TV series ended in February after three seasons on the air.

Missing (ABC)
A former CIA Agent goes searching for her missing son but didn’t find enough viewers.

Napoleon Dynamite (FOX)
The cult movie was very popular in its day but not enough people were interested in seeing an animated version.

The Nate Berkus Show (syndicated)
The interior designer will finish out his second season but there won’t be a third year of episodes.

The Nine Lives of Chloe King (ABC Family)
This drama left viewers with cliffhangers but the ratings just weren’t good enough for them to make any more episodes.

NYC 22 (CBS)
We won’t get to see these police rookies become seasoned cops.

One Tree Hill (The CW)
This venerable series has continued to endure despite some major cast changes. The network decided to pull the plug following the ninth and final season of 13 episodes.

Pan Am (ABC)
Like the Pan Am airline, this TV show will fade into history.

The Playboy Club (NBC)
This NBC TV series stumbled right out of the gate and was pulled after three episodes. It wins the distinction of being the first network TV series to be cancelled of the fall crop.

Prime Suspect (NBC)
The remake stumbled right out of the gate and the ratings just got worse. NBC aired all 13 episodes and had no reason to order any more.

The Protector (Lifetime)
A drama about a single-mom police detective, this TV series never caught on with a big audience and the cable channel decided not to order a second season.

Re-Modeled (The CW)
The network thought this might be a good show to pair with America’s Next Top Model. The network was wrong.

The Revolution (ABC)
The network replaced venerable soap opera One Life to Live with this self-help show and daytime viewers stayed away in droves.

Ringer (The CW)
This Sarah Michelle Gellar series started out strong but the ratings fell as viewers tuned out.

The River (ABC)
The thriller series left viewers “up the creek” with plenty of unanswered questions.

¡Rob! (CBS)
Rob tried to fit in with his new family but the network didn’t think his show was a good fit with the network.

The Rosie Show (OWN)
The Rosie O’Donnell talk show only lasted five months on the air before being cancelled.

The Secret Circle (The CW)
It looked like this show would be a good companion for The Vampire Diaries but many viewers tired of it and tuned out.

The Sing-Off (NBC)
The a capella competition ran for two successful seasons during the holidays but the third aired last fall and did very poorly.

Skins (Channel 4 in UK)
It’s been announced that the series will end with season seven. It will be broadcast in early 2013.

Skins (MTV)
There was an uproar from some parents groups when this show premiered. That died off and so did viewer interest. It certainly didn’t help that many sponsors pulled their ads from the show. The cable channel cancelled it after one season.

State of Georgia (ABC Family)
The sitcom’s ratings were terrible so it was no surprise that the cable channel cancelled it after all 12 episodes had aired.

Take the Money and Run (ABC)
A pair of regular people try to keep a suitcase filled with cash hidden from a team of cops and detectives. Not enough people were interested so it’s been cancelled.

Terra Nova (FOX)
An expensive series to produce, Terra Nova registered only mediocre ratings so the network ultimately decided to cancel it.

Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns (TBS)
This sitcom was based on Perry’s 2008 film comedy of the same name. It lasted for five seasons and 140 installments. The series ending aired on November 18, 2011.

Unforgettable (CBS)
A female police detective that remembers almost everything. CBS cancelled it after one season and 22 episodes.

Upstairs Downstairs (BBC One)
The revival of the classic UK series lasted for just nine episodes and two brief seasons.

Who Do You Think You Are? (NBC)
Airing on Friday nights, this feel-good genealogy program lasted for three short seasons.

Who’s Still Standing? (NBC)
Hosted by Ben Bailey, this trivia game show lasted for nine episodes and one short season.

Wizards of Waverly Place (Disney Channel)
After four seasons, the three Russo kids have competed and one was crowned as the wizard of their generation. The series finale aired on January 6th.

Work It (ABC)
This sitcom premiered to poor reviews and ratings. The numbers got even worse in week two so the network pulled it off the air. The extra episodes may surface over the summer if ABC has an empty slot.

CSI: Miami: Cancelled by CBS, No Season 11

After 10 seasons, it’s time for David Caruso to turn in his sunglasses. CBS has cancelled CSI: Miami, the first show in the CSI franchise to end.

Starting in 2002, the TV series follows a South Florida team of forensic investigators who often use advanced scientific methods to solve crimes. The current cast includes Caruso, Adam Rodriguez, Emily Procter, Eva La Rue, Jonathan Togo, Omar Benson Miller, and Rex Linn.

The ratings for CSI: Miami have declined over the years. Season nine averaged a 2.1 in the coveted 18-49 demographic with 9.85 million total viewers. That was down from season eight by 13% in the demo (vs a 2.4 rating) and down by 5% in viewership (vs 10.39 million).

While the cop show’s overall viewership is still impressive, advertisers want shows that cater to the demo audience and the network has many shows that attract big overall audiences.

What’s more, after 10 seasons on the air, CSI: Miami is no doubt very expensive to produce and there are already 232 episodes, more than enough to keep running in syndication for many years.

Nina Tassler, President of CBS Entertainment, suggested that one of the CSI shows might be cancelled this month. The original CSI was already renewed so it was a guessing game to see if Miami or NY would bite the bullet. CSI: NY has reportedly been renewed for season nine.

Of the cancellation news, CBS released the following statement:

CSI: Miami leaves an amazing television legacy – a signature look and style, global popularity and as a key player in CBS’s rise to the top over the past decade. We thank all the producers – led by Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman and Ann Donahue — and its talented cast, led by David Caruso, for 10 outstanding seasons. Viewers around the world will continue to enjoy rebroadcasts of CSI: Miami in syndication and on key digital platforms for many years to come.

Unforgettable: Cancelled; No Season Two

It turns out that Unforgettable didn’t live up to its name. CBS has cancelled the police drama after one season on the air.

The TV series revolves around Carrie Wells (Poppy Montgomery), a female police detective with an unusually detailed memory (hyperthymesia) that helps her solve crimes. The cast also includes Dylan Walsh, Michael Gaston, Kevin Rankin, and Daya Vaidya.

Unforgettable started out the season with a 2.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 14.09 million total viewers. Over the course of the season, the drama’s ratings declined. At the end of the season, they fell as low as a 1.8 demo rating with 9.45 million viewers.

The season ended up averaging a 2.3 rating in the demo with 11.3 million viewers. While the total number of viewers is impressive, the demo number (and its decline) is not. CBS already has several other shows that deliver lots of viewers but the advertisers gravitate towards the younger demo.

On our CBS Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative success of shows on the network, Unforgettable has a “C-” grade and is #15 on the list of CBS scripted shows.

If CBS wasn’t doing as well as they are, Unforgettable might have been renewed for a second season but, as it is, CBS cancelled the show instead.
