HBO’s Hung debuted this past sunday with many high hopes. I believe it started out well but left us hanging just a lil bit. So it was a good first episode but not a great one. It didn’t have the same punch that True Blood gave us a couple of weeks ago. Nor did it have the same umph that Nurse Jackie brought when it premiered. It played out like nice slow beginning to a movie where you expect it up rev up when it gets going.
Ray (Thomas Jane), does a great job in his role of trying to find himself albeit in a profession that’s the oldest one in the world. When he loses his wife and his kids he goes to the only thing he does best. And thus we have the title, Hung.
It’s well acted and the script and direction of the show is superb. It just needs that extra something which I feel will come in the following episodes. It leaves you hanging for more so that is a good thing. So I have more TV to watch now, as if my plate wasn’t already full! Here’s how this show rates:
Writing: 2 out of 3 stars
needs that umph factor
Acting Performances: 3 out of 3 stars
superb acting from every role
Originality: 3 stars out of 3 stars
very original plot and storyline
Bias Factor: 0 out of 1 stars
Zero stars because my expectation of this show was very positive.
Overall: 8 out 10 stars
